OEC is currently accepting resumes for the open position of Apprentice Power Lineman. This is a full-time position with occasional after-hours, weekend, and emergency assignments.

The Apprentice Power Lineman is responsible for construction, maintenance, and repair to the Cooperative's electric system. This position performs tasks within the scope of their training in a safe and efficient manner with the supervision of a Journeyman Power Lineman. They are expected to acquire experience and knowledge of tasks to advance to the Journeyman Power Lineman position. The normal work schedule includes emergency and occasional scheduled days/times outside of regular business hours, including extended shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.

This position will occasionally be on-call and must be available to respond to calls on short notice. Interested applicants should reside in, or be willing to relocate to, OEC's service territory.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide exceptional service to OEC's members
  • Assist with construction, repair, and maintenance of single- and three-phase overhead and underground electric lines and facilities, with Journeyman Power Lineman supervision
    • Tasks include but are not limited to: climbing poles; loading/unloading equipment and materials; framing poles; attaching guy wires; digging and tamping holes; hanging and connecting meter loops; pulling wire and tie-in conductors; splicing wire; digging trenches; laying wire; installing and making connections on pad mount transformers, term cans, and pedestals; terminating primary underground wire; installing single-phase meters; trimming trees
  • Assists with troubleshooting issues, such as low/high voltage, blinks, outages, and outdoor light repairs
  • Demonstrates continued learning and progression of responsibilities, skills, and abilities and participates in OEC sponsored apprentice lineman program

Ideal candidates meet the following qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or Certificate in Electric Power Line Technology or similar field OR High school diploma (or equivalent) and 1 year experience in the electric power line industry
  • Valid Class A CDL
  • Ability to climb poles
  • Knowledge of electric distribution systems, tools, and equipment
  • Knowledge of electric industry safety practices
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Team-oriented, shows great attention to detail, willing to take on responsibilities and challenges, works well under stress, and punctual
