Position Summary
Antioch University Seattle is seeking a full-time Core Faculty member to join our dynamic, highly collaborative team. The ideal candidate will be able to teach across and contribute to multiple programs, including the Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) and the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Programs. Responsibilities include teaching graduate courses with emphasis on organizational leadership and change, as well as K-8 methods courses that focus on anti-racist and critical pedagogies. The School of Education seeks a faculty member with expertise in one or more of the following areas: inquiry & research, educational leadership & policy, science teaching methods, social studies teaching methods, disability justice, and/or social emotional learning. Successful applicants will demonstrate a strong commitment to fostering coalitions with communities farthest from educational justice.
Responsibilities of the position also include advising, program development, collaborating with community partners, participation in the admissions process, and participation in regular program evaluation. The position may include a chair appointment in the MAEd program. Therefore, candidates with strong leadership experience or administrative experience will be given special consideration.
Full-time faculty members are expected to be involved in campus, scholarly, professional, and community activities. This position is full-time (100% FTE), with a 12-month service period, including 3 months of professional leave.This position is within the bargaining unit represented by SEIU 925. Start date will ideally be July 1, 2023, although we will also consider candidates who can begin October 1, 2023.

Primary Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the candidate for this full-time Teaching Faculty position include:
  • Teaching 24 credits in areas such as inquiry & research, master of arts in education electives, and K-8 methods courses in one or more of the following areas: inquiry & research, educational leadership & policy, science methods, social studies methods, disability justice, and social emotional learning;
  • Advising up to 15 students. Responsibilities include reviewing advisees progress on a quarterly basis, helping them to design their programs of study, supporting them in successfully completing their programs, and advocating for them around institutional systems and supports;
  • Participating in School of Education faculty meetings and retreats for discussions on the academic quality of the programs, policies, teaching/advising, student/candidate standards, and program assessment and development;
  • Helping develop and foster an overarching vision for the MAEd Program;
  • Working to establish and maintain coalitions with community partners;
  • Assisting in reviewing files, interviewing applicants, and making recommendations for new candidate admittance;
  • Participating in recruitment and outreach activities;
  • Participating in campus-wide governance, committee work and community-wide events;
  • Contributing to the creation and sharing of knowledge through active participation and dialogue with professional peers and colleagues in the fields of education.

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education or related discipline (ABD will be considered);
  • Demonstrated commitment to working for social justice, racial justice, and equity in education;
  • Experience working successfully in culturally and linguistically diverse settings;
  • Special consideration will be given to multilingual applicants and those with experience teaching multilingual learners;
  • Record of successful teaching at the university level, including working with a variety of learners;
  • Demonstrated commitment to scholarly research. Special consideration will be given to applicants who exhibit an agenda related to diverse populations and their learning;
  • Collaborative interpersonal style with demonstrated communication and problem solving skills in working with colleagues and adult learners.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in and with public schools;
  • Experience working in higher education or with adult learners.
