Alliance for Justice (AFJ) is a national association of over 150 organizations, representing a broad array of groups committed to progressive values and the creation of an equitable, just, and free society. Job purpose

The Development Associate is responsible for all administrative aspects of development and donor cultivation activities. This position support AFJ's leadership in fundraising, donor cultivation, and administration activities aligned with its mission and strategic plan.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain EveryAction (EA) database records ensuring accurate and up to date information including gift entry, notes, contacts, and follow ups.
  • Communicate with Finance Department to receive required reports, wire transfers, check scans, and stock gifts.
  • Generate, print, mail, and track timely and accurate acknowledgement letters for donations.
  • Support the Foundations Relations Director with back up support for data entry and tracking.
  • Pull reports on programmatic data from EveryAction (EA) database.
  • Assist with donor outreach events throughout the year.
  • Proofread and light editing of print and digital materials.
  • Maintain and update as needed ClickUp project management software.
  • Additional tasks as assigned.


  • Bachelors degree or 2-3 years of experience in development required.
  • Demonstrated alignment with AFJ mission and politics, and passion for its work.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Comfortable working with database software programs such as EveryAction.
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Outstanding attention to detail and deadlines
  • Ability to maintain strong, positive, collegial working relationships
  • Ability to take ownership of a process and use problem-solving skills to resolve issues
  • Strong professionalism with the ability to function efficiently in a busy, fast paced environment
  • Ability to manage projects with minimal supervision.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and other office equipment.

Direct Reports

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Currently a hybrid office/remote with staff expected to be on site (If based in Washington, D.C.) two days a week.

This is a union position covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with the Washington-Baltimore News Guild, CWA Local 32035, which includes salary minimums based on job position category. This position is in Group 1 with a salary minimum of $50,000.
