Grad Intern - Operations (Methods and Process Trending Data Scientist)

During this program, you will help subject matter experts within Final Product Technologies make data-driven decisions by building automatic data processing workflows and interactive visualizations. The ideal candidate enjoys tackling challenges and excels at organizing information from numerous sources to provide well-constructed deliverables. They have a passion for modeling, analytics, and technology. The successful candidate will be given opportunities to apply their expertise to enhance the way data is used to inform and make decisions. This role will be in the Process Development Organization, within the "medical device" group, Final Product Technologies (FPT). This candidate will be a part of the Business Operations team which, among other responsibilities, manages large-cross functional data and IS initiatives. This candidate will work cross-functionally to help teams within FPT make use of large sets of data being gathered by our suppliers. They will have to understand use cases and nuances of business needs throughout the organization and build data processes and visualizations to help teams best-utilize this data.

This may include, but is not limited to, the following:
  • Working with large quantities of data to enable general workflows such as data processing, cleaning, and labeling.
  • Developing, enhancing, automating, and managing Supplier Data
  • Creating striking visualizations to aid in data interpretation and usage
  • Demonstrating modeling and visualization approaches as part of proof-of-concept projects
  • Partner with IS and Data Engineers to ensure that the models feeding the dashboards are robust, functional, and relevant to business needs
  • Constantly iterate with the business on analysis and dashboard design to ensure all necessary features and data are present

Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
  • 18 years or older
  • Graduated with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
  • Currently enrolled in an MBA program for an MBA internship OR a Master's program for a Master's internship before internship starts
  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship or co-op assignment
  • Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with data visualization tools or packages, such as SpotFire
  • Experience with advanced statistical/analytical techniques
  • Proficiency in at least one statistical software package
  • Proficiency with SQL/spark SQL and ability to manipulate large datasets from various source systems/databases
  • Knowledge of multiple programming/scripting languages such as Python, Java, C++, MATLAB, or R
  • Experience with correlation analysis, familiar with common machine learning techniques
  • Experience analyzing unstructured data, such as using NLP techniques to analyze free-text data and generate insights
  • Understanding business needs and developing novel yet practical solutions to meet those needs
  • Interest in better understanding medical device development workflows
  • Passion for proactively identifying opportunities through creative data analysis and modeling
