MPD is currently searching for a Legal Secretary to join our Washington Co Office. The Legal Secretary position performs a variety of confidential legal clerical work in support of the defense team. The Legal Secretary position types, formats, proofread, and produce final copy of a wide variety of reports, legal documents, letters, memoranda, templates, spreadsheets, and statistical charts. The Legal Secretary position also review drafts for punctuation, spelling, and grammar; make or suggest corrections to drafts; independently compose letters, memoranda, or basic reports from general instructions or information related to assigned responsibilities; and arrange for, upload or distribute copies of material. The work performed requires a general knowledge of the organizations operations as the Legal Secretary will be the Phone Systems Administrator and Security Systems Back Up. The Legal Secretary receives general supervision from the Office Services Manager.

This position pays $34,845.98 - $47,988.46 per year. Staff are members of a union. This is a full-time non-exempt position. In addition to compensation, MPD also offers:

  • Medical (choice of PPO or HDHP), Dental and Vision 100% employer paid for employee only coverage
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Basic Life, STD, LTD and ADD&D 100% employer paid
  • 401(K) MPD will contribute 6% of your annual salary with full vesting after the completion of 5 years of service
  • PTO 24 hours upon hire and accrue monthly to 80 hours and increase to 120 hours starting at 24 months
  • 10 paid holidays + 2 floating holidays (summer and winter)
  • 4 Mental Health Days per year
  • Sick Leave 48 hours upon hire + 48 hours after the completions of six months of employment and 96 hours each service anniversary

Position Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Education or experience working in the legal or social service field is preferred but not required
  • Experience working in indigent criminal defense a plus

Position Preferences

  • Fluent in Spanish highly preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Notary Public must be current or obtained within a specified time frame.
  • Maintains confidentiality of agency records.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Work Environment:
