General Description: Niagara County Community College is seeking a full-time 10 month Technical Assistant for our Nursing Laboratory in our Nursing, Physical Education & Allied Health Division. The Technical Assistant is responsible for the oversight and operation of all nursing laboratories and for assisting nursing faculty with nursing skills and use of laboratory equipment

The start date of this position will be for the start of the Spring semester in January of 2022.

Niagara County Community College is doing its part to prevent the spread of the COVID -19 virus within our work environment and requiring that all faculty employees be fully vaccinated against COVID -19. Therefore, the candidate that is selected for hire of the position must show proof of vaccination status to the Human Resources office after an offer of employment is accepted. Typical Work ActivitiesEssential Functions:
1. Participate in Division orientation program, including the mentoring process.

2. Provide NCCC with medical information including a complete physical examination, designated lab tests and vaccines (including Covid), and required documentation/ protocol in the event of accidents in the laboratory.

3. Participate in the nursing laboratory activities by:

a. Creating a hospital environment with electronic health records, patient charts, medications, treatment supplies

b. Preparing materials for scheduled lab sessions

c. Assisting with nursing skills as needed by instructors

d. Re-demonstrating the use of equipment in scheduled lab


e. Guiding and assisting students in practice of nursing skills

f. Assisting with scheduling students for skill performance evaluation

g. Maintaining documentation of students' practice of skill performance and communicates with course faculty

h. Supervising the college nursing laboratory time schedule

i. Assisting students in use of equipment and computers

j. Maintaining mannequins, cleans equipment, reports and ensures repairs and maintenance is done as needed

k. Researching, obtaining bids and ordering supplies and equipment for use by faculty for class demonstration and all students in lab sessions.

l. Maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment. Recommends repairs and replacement

m. Preparing skill competency practice and assessment equipment for students returned to the lab by clinical faculty for unsafe practice.

n. Assisting in Simulation Lab when needed.

4. Assist in compilation of data pertinent to the Nursing Program when time permits.

5. Assist with skill competency demonstration during Orientation for clinical faculty.

6. Attend professional workshops and continuing education programs pertinent to expertise and self development.

7. Participate in NCCC Nursing Faculty Competencies and Continuing Education Points.

8. Assume divisional and college duties.

9. Attend weekly team planning sessions when assigned.

10. Attend weekly lab planning sessions and other meetings as needed.

11. Participate in divisional and college committees.

12. Other duties as deemed necessary by AVPAA of Nursing, Physical, and Allied Health.

Essential Functions: Must be able to operate laboratory equipment; must be able to work with a diverse population; must be able to operate computers; must be able to speak to groups; must be able to prepare reports and documentation required in performance of duties; must be able to physically perform the duties of the position with our without reasonable accommodation; must be able to relate to senior members of the nursing staff and administration; must be able to meet all medical requirements of the position.

Required Qualifications:
  • Associates degree with a major in Nursing and the ability to obtain a Bachelor's Degree with a major in Nursing within two years of date of hire;
  • Current NYS RN license;
  • Recent experience (within previous 5 years) in acute medical/surgical area.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Nursing,
  • Experience using computers;
  • Graduate of an Associate's degree program in Nursing;
  • Experience working at a community college.
