World Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the world's leading conservation organizations, with the Climate, Communities and Wildlife teams seeks a Program Officer to assist with the planning, coordination, communication and implementation of projects under the umbrella of the Climate, Communities and Wildlife team at WWF US. This is likely to be a secondment from another team at WWF, with a view to a permanent hire in FY22. The position can be either full time or part time. Projects under this program include:

Major Function

Under the supervision of the Director - Climate, Communities and Wildlife, the Program Officer assists with planning, coordination, communication, and implementation of program activities for existing and new partnerships and projects in collaboration WWF goal teams, WWF country offices, and other project partners. Projects under this portfolio include:

African Nature-Based Tourism Collaborative Platform: A Response to Covid-19 | Projects | WWF

Climate Crowd | WWF

Wildlife Adaptation Innovation Fund | Projects | WWF

Wildlife and Climate | Pages | WWF


Key Responsibilities
  • Under the supervision of the Director, develops project monitoring and evaluation plans for the Africa Nature-Based tourism Collaborative Platform, gathers and analyzes monitoring data, produces quarterly, semiannual, and annual reports on project progress and impact.
  • Synthesizes and inputs data collected from the field, analyzes data, and creates regular summary reports.
  • Develops, plans and implements oversight of new and ongoing field projects and grants.
  • Drafts, reviews and edits fundraising proposals and donor reports.
  • Works with project partners, grantees, consultants, and others to facilitate coordination, communication, and regular reporting.
  • Reviews the performance outcomes and status of all activities and evaluates and reports these results, as well as recommendations for corrective action. May travel to project sites to monitor and evaluate project progress and reports back, verbally and in writing.
  • Monitors and analyzes new technical information, policy development issues, and trends related to the program and advises others accordingly. Keeps abreast of issues in areas in which WWF has an ongoing interest.
  • Develops and maintains content for project websites and social media platforms.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Skills and Abilities

  • A Bachelor's degree; ideally in a related field such as conservation, climate change, environmental science, or related degrees.
  • Up to 2 years work experience in a related field
  • Excellent organizational, research, writing, project management and analytical skills
  • Ability to operate with independence, under pressure, to meet deadlines and commitments
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience with categorizing and analyzing large amounts of data
  • Experience working overseas in conservation and development programs is desired. Knowledge of development issues in Africa a plus.
