About the role

Publicity Manager to handle all aspects of publicity for assigned Oxford University Presss trade titles. Supervisory responsibilities with direct reports at publicist, associate publicist, and assistant publicist level staff. Publicity Manager will be in direct contact with authors and media regarding publicity and tours, and be responsible for creating and executing publicity campaigns. In addition, the Publicity Manager will assist the director in department administration such as events management, budgets, database training, managing and mentoring junior staff, media visits, communications and strategy.
  • Manage all aspects of publicity campaigns for assigned books, including media outreach for reviews coverage, book excerpt and OpEd placements, author interviews, events and author lectures.
  • Identify the best and most appropriate audience for assigned titles and compile media lists accordingly.
  • Pitch seasonal list to key media (ie. media visits/lunches) and build relationships with the media more broadly.
  • Act as author liaison, establishing professional, effective working relationships with authors.
  • Keep appropriate stakeholders apprised of publicity developments, including teams in marketing, sales, and editorial.
  • Strategize with marketing on lead campaigns and advise junior staff on how to work effectively with marketing staff.
  • Review book proposals and advise Director on books publicity potential and sit in on editorial board meetings as needed.
  • Fill in for Director as needed at marketing meeting, author meetings, etc.
  • Supervise direct reports

About you

College graduate with minimum 5 years book publicity or related experience. Candidate must be creative and have an enthusiastic and energetic approach to mining publicity opportunities. Strong media connections. Previous supervisory experience desired. Must be at ease with pitching to media, dealing with authors, and juggling several projects at once. Excellent writing skills required.
