Construction Project Manager 3 – Senior Project Leader

The role:

Bring your project management experience to ODOT! As a senior project leader, you will lead the delivery of projects in which established criteria and technical precedents frequently do not apply. While managing a complex portfolio of projects and leading multiple project teams through processes, you will showcase your project management skillset as you ensure we deliver projects within scope, schedule and budget.

A day in the life:

  • Develop and implement project strategies and work plans.
  • Assemble core project teams to perform engineering design and development work.
  • Monitor and evaluate team progress on tasks and deliverables.
  • Prepare and manage master work plan for portfolio of assigned projects.
  • Manage work tasks, schedules and budgets for multiple projects.
  • Identify and determine contracting methods.
  • Provide oversight to local government agencies and consultants in developing and delivering of state or federally funded transportation projects by local agencies. 
  • Negotiate and draft details for intergovernmental agreements with other governments and jurisdictions.
  • Provide advice and counsel to regional and statewide management and leadership on project delivery trends, risks, issues, policies, processes and best practices. 
  • Develop and implement project delivery process training.
  • Work is primarily performed in an office environment with occasional work outdoors at project sites.
  • Extended hours, including some evening work to attend public meetings is required.
  • Regular travel within the area and region, and occasional travel statewide is required.
  • This position requires frequent contact with elected and local officials, various media, and the public in conditions which may be stressful, emotionally charged or adversarial.
  • May be exposed to traffic and construction equipment hazards and inclement weather conditions.
  • At project sites, may need to walk on rough terrain and stoop or bend around structures or equipment; and may be required to work 20 feet or more above ground/water. 

Requirements

What we need:

A bachelor's degree in construction management, business administration, public administration, architecture, planning, or engineering; and five years progressively responsible experience related to the class series concept;

OR

An associate degree (or comparable course work) in architectural, construction or engineering technology; and six and one-half years progressively responsible experience related to the class series concept;

OR

Eight years of progressively responsible experience related to the class series concept.

Note: Possession of a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification awarded by the Project Management Institute (PMI), Oregon Project Management Associate Certification (OPMA) or other related certification will substitute for one year of the qualifying experience.

Additionally, driving is an essential function of this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position.
