The scale-up team at Arbor Biotechnologies is looking for a senior Research Associate, (Sr. RA), interested in applying technologies to make biology high-throughput. Our team is leveraging technologies, such as automation and microfluidics, to increase productivity and consistency of labor-intensive biological processes, and to provide high-throughput core service for other groups in the Arbor.

The Senior Research Associate, Automation & NGS, will have a rare opportunity to make a broad impact on Arbor's critical path and overall productivity. This role will have an exposure to different projects, interact with different teams, and operate different instruments. The main responsibility of the Sr. RA is to provide NGS core service to many internal teams using lab automation equipment. Other responsibilities are to develop, optimize, and trouble-shoot high-throughput protocols and write Standard Operation Procedures (SOP). The successful candidates will bring their hands-on experience in molecular biology, automation, programming, and a continued desire to learn additional skills. Successful applicants will have demonstrated skills in executing a protocol with an eye to find its weaknesses and provide suggestions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operates lab automation equipment and conducts laboratory experiments following a protocol with limited guidance
  • Trouble shoots and provides feedback to update protocols; write SOPs
  • Evaluates and summarizes results, prepares electronic lab notebook, reports, and presents data;
  • Write and modify protocols of lab automation equipment, such as liquid handlers;
  • Cross-team communication and training
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor's degree in biology, bio-engineering, or a related life science with 3+ years relevant industry experience, or Master's degree in biology, engineering or related life science with 2+ years of relevant experience.

Skills

  • Hands-on experience in molecular biology: Cloning, Transfection, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), NGS library preparation, library construction, PCR, DNA purification
  • Interest to learn and tinker with instruments
  • Able to troubleshoot problems, determine causes, interact with technical support, and fix problems if possible
  • Ability to work well in a highly cross-functional, and fast-paced team environment, and a mentality to collaborate and serve others.
  • Exercises good time management and prioritization skills
  • Familiar with Office Suite or Google GSuite, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Great verbal and writing skills
  • Self-motivated and hard-working

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience to operate and program liquid handlers
  • Work experience in a high-throughput screening facility
  • Familiar with programming language such as Python
  • Familiar with library Information Management System (LIMS)
