The Strategic Planning & Operations Director for Amgen Nephrology US drives business strategy via strong alignment across all key cross-functional partners. This role spans across multiple brands, including the highly successful launch brand Parsabiv and legendary brands Aranesp and Epogen. In this role, the Director leads development of executive presentations including quarterly business reviews and brand performance updates. The Director will act as a project manager across key franchise deliverables including nephrology brands local product strategy (LPS), goal setting and tracking deliverables and communications. Additionally, this individual will have responsibility for Global Marketing interface on lifecycle management and business development. He or she is a member of the cross-functional Nephrology Leadership Team and a meaningful partner in enabling effective collaboration across functional teams. Key responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with marketing team in business unit strategy development and drive implementation through cross-functional partnerships
  • Development, maintenance, and tracking of key strategic breakthroughs
  • Collaborate with the Inflammation and Nephrology Business Unit (INBU) finance members to ensure tight alignment
  • Engage with Global Marketing to ensure strategic alignment
  • Define and shape the US Nephrology long-term portfolio strategy
  • Evaluate strategic fit of business development opportunities

Financial performance management
  • Work closely with INBU Finance on nephrology brand revenue planning
  • Lead management of Nephrology franchise OPEX

Team and culture
  • Lead Nephrology Franchise Marketing Meetings including team participants, meeting content and cadence
  • Partner with ED of Nephrology Sales & Marketing to facilitate engagement initiatives to foster culture and purpose across the business
  • Lead and develop a small team of marketing professionals.
  • Recognize opportunities and define and implement solutions that improve the effectiveness of the Nephrology Team

Operational excellence
  • Develop and integrate business unit operating model/efficient governance for the year (key calendar achievements)
  • Lead presentation development of ED presentations including sales semester meetings, executive updates, and key customer engagements
  • Serve as key collaborator with Supply Chain
  • Liaison with Global Marketing on business development opportunities
  • Liaison with US Healthcare Compliance on business unit activity and track progress
  • Liaison with CD&A to synthesize and develop insights to identify further opportunities for growth/course corrections

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of sales management, marketing and/or commercial operations experience


Master's degree and 6 years of sales management, marketing and/or commercial operations experience


Bachelor's degree and 8 years of sales management, marketing and/or commercial operations experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of demonstrated sales and marketing experience
  • Planning and analytical experience with a strategic mentality
  • Outstanding project leadership skills
  • Ability to drive cross-functional partnerships and results
  • Strong business analysis skill and financial acumen
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Examples of exemplary team leadership and achieving goals through others
  • Strong communication and matrix management skills including key partnership with Finance, US Value & Access, BAI, Global Marketing, Medical and external partners will be paramount.
  • Strong understanding of the US payer environment including the ability to factor government and commercial payer insights into strategic and operational brand plans
  • Very strong PowerPoint and Excel skills, including direct experience using these skills in professional setting
