Georgia-Pacific has an exciting opportunity for a talented Training Specialist at our Palatka, Florida facility. Located just south of Jacksonville and west of St. Augustine, FL, the Palatka mill employs about 900 people has three tissue paper machines which produce consumer tissue products such as bath tissue and paper towels, as well as two Kraft paper machines.


The Training Specialist is responsible for implementing and managing the employee development function pertaining to both new and tenured employees; including developing/deploying training content, finding and implementing transformational learning technologies, and leveraging subject matter experts throughout the learning process. The Training Specialist will also assess individual and department needs, identifying and implementing suitable solutions to drive increased employee capability.


This position will work in the Pulp and Utilities Department and works closely with frontline manufacturing employees, department engineers, supervisors, and managers in developing, implementing, and evaluating ongoing procedures and programs. This position ensures that the employees have the necessary skills and knowledge for the organization to achieve its performance metrics.




  A Day In The Life Typically Includes:


  • Providing positive leadership through the effective application of the MBM® business philosophy.
  • Partnering with subject matter experts to analyze performance problems and determine  employee development needs.
  • Researching new and emerging uses of digital resources and technologies in the learning process; developing continuous learning programs based on findings.
  • Working with frontline manufacturing employees and managers to develop and implement learning and development plans.
  • Facilitating the department’s on-the-job training program.
  • Designing, developing, and producing blended learning programs.
  • Delivering technical content directly to target audiences in a classroom setting.
  • Providing coaching and consultation for individual participants.
  • Reviewing performance indicators to determine effectiveness of training programs.
  • Communicating with program stakeholders, management, and others as required.
  • Managing learning content and procedures within the department’s SharePoint.
  • Managing, monitoring, and maintaining courses and assessment data within the Learning Management System.
  • Advancing personal knowledge of adult learning best practices, development trends, instructional design tools/techniques, training impact evaluation, and innovative methodologies.


A successful Training Specialist will have the ability to:

Successful candidate must have the ability use both conventional and state-of-the-art tools, technologies, and methodologies to create standard and custom training programs in multiple modalities, including traditional instructor-led courses, eLearning courses, on-the-job learning programs, and self-paced learning materials to enhance department performance. Content would include but are not limited to papermaking fundamentals, manufacturing methods, reliability principles, personal effectiveness competencies, and supervisory development. In addition, they will need to quickly gain an understanding of the business and the ability to deliver innovative learning solutions to support a rapidly transforming environment.


What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma/GED or higher.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in learning and development, with specific experience in designing, developing, and delivering training related to employee technical skills and competencies.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with commonly used concepts within the training industry, including ADDIE, SAM, and adult education concepts and modalities.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 collaboration tools, including SharePoint, Teams, Yammer, and OneDrive.
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Prior experience utilizing a Learning Management System to drive training, visibility, and accountability.
  • Experience developing eLearning courses to modern eLearning standards.
  • Writing and document layout skills.
  • Voice-over skills utilizing the English language. 



What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Training, Instructional Design, Adult Education, Human Resources, Organizational Development, or related study.

  • ATD CPLP credentialing.

  • Fluent with Adobe Create Cloud applications including, After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Premier Pro.

  • Proven ability to develop eLearning utilizing Adobe Captivate.

  • Experience in the creation and editing of animation, video, and graphics.

  • Experience with capturing 360-degree images/video.

  • Capability to develop and maintain SharePoint assets.

  • Ability to objectively evaluate course content and feedback, making improvements as needed.

  • Project management skills, including the utilization of Microsoft Project.
  • Knowledge of operational and mechanical characteristics of industrial equipment including pumps, motors, valves, instrumentation, hydraulic system equipment, and electrical components.
  • Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment.
